I am a constantly positive and energetic idealist who is committed to integrity. When I believe in something, I am thoroughly dedicated to it. I strongly believe in the power of choice, necessity of compassion and empathy, beauty of freedom, and importance of service.
With two-and-a-half years of tutoring and classroom experience, I am confident I can meet you where you or your child are now and get you or your child where you want to be. For one year and nine months, I lived and worked in the Dominican Republic, working one-on-one and in small groups with students aged 5-11, focused on Spanish
literacy and conversation. For four months, I worked as a tutor at a private school, specializing in one-on-one and small group lessons in reading
for first graders through sixth graders. For three months this summer, I was a full-time nanny and tutor for three children, aged 6, 8, and 13. We had tutoring sessions four times a week for each child, focused on reading, reading comprehension, and math.
My tutoring style is based on the belief that children learn best when they are engaged and doing something they like to do. Therefore, I am an avid user of educationally-focused games (my math basketball
routine was famous at the private school), technology, and a schedule that's filled with short and engaging activities. Each child is different, and I will base my plans on that particular child, never settling for a recycled lesson plan that will not work for them.
I believe that parents and full-time teachers know best about their child/student, so I am thankful for any opportunities to partner with full-time caregivers.
I genuinely see the possibility in each and every child, and I am excited about the opportunity to give special, patient, and persistent attention to the students who will benefit from it.
