Growing up in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, I have grown up in diverse neighborhoods, been a key member in international student organizations, and have always been interested in language and culture. Therefore, upon high school graduation, I joined the United States Air Force (USAF) as a linguist. Prior to enlisting in the USAF, I learned Spanish at the AP-level and taught myself much more thereafter, ending up scoring two plus (2+) in listening and two plus (2+) in reading on the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT). I take every opportunity presented to me to help my peers with their Spanish abilities; whether it be in reading, writing, speaking, or general grammar and to practice the language at any opportunity presented to me. I traveled and studied abroad for two (2) months primarily in La Paz, Bolivia and somewhat throughout Peru. I am very well-versed in Spanish grammar and helping others fine-tune their Spanish language abilities.

I learned Korean at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California and achieved a score of two (2) in speaking, three (3) in reading, and three (3) in listening comprehension. I am well-versed in Korean grammar and the mechanics of the language. I also have experience in tutoring peers of mine who also work with the language. I have been a Korean translator for the USAF for the past six (6) years. I have also lived in the Republic of Korea (ROK) for two (2) years and studied abroad at Sogang University in Seoul for one month of advanced Korean language studies. I graduated with honors from the DLI. Additionally, I have completed my major within the University of Maryland, University College system for East Asian Studies with a focus on the Korean Peninsula.

Sadly there is not an option for this language on WyzAnt; however, I also offer tutoring lessons for the Somali language. I learned the Somali language two (2) years ago and have been translating it since for the USAF. Upon graduation, I have achieved and maintained a proficiency level of two (2) in reading, two (2) in speaking, and two (2) in listening from the Foreign Service Institute (FSI).

Most importantly, being a native English speaker, I have gained an in-depth perspective on language learning and am very familiar with the intricacies and nuances of language learning. Allow me to be your tutor and guide you on a successful path through your language-learning-journey.

I also offer tutoring online via Skype if that works better for the situation.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Korean

I learned Korean at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) and achieved a score of 3 in listening, 3 in reading, and 2 in speaking. I have translated Korean for the Air Force for 9 years and am fluent with the complexities of learning the language. I have tutored my peers with their learning deficiencies in the language and they have improved their skills.

Spanish

I studied Spanish up to the AP level in high school and received a 4 on the AP Spanish exam. Thereafter I studied Spanish extensively on my own and achieved a level 2 in listening and 2 plus in reading for Spanish. I understand the mechanics of Spanish very well and have tutored coworkers in the field. I have been a translator for the Air Force for the past 9 years.
