Hello!

My name is Matthew and I am a Nationally Certified American Sign Language interpreter with 4 years of interpreting experience.

I am offering sign language and sign language interpretation tutoring to students of any age, ranging from ASL I to Advanced interpreting skill levels. I also teach workshops for groups. If you need help learning ASL, I am your man!

I have experience teaching ASL and interpreting skills. I started a business to teach service industry workers how to communicate with the deaf in a way to make their business more accessible to the deaf, for a win-win situation for both parties. Please consider me as you look for a tutor. I am willing to travel or you can meet me. It is up to you.

Have a great day and I a hope to hear from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Cooking

I owned a catering business for twelve years. I have tutored students before in this subject for a total of three years. My tutoring style is such that each student receives individual attention as their learning style is different.

General Music

I have an associate's degree in General Studies with a minor in vocal music performance from Indiana University. I have taught piano and voice as well as general music for five years. My tutoring style is such that each student's progress is measured by their successes, not their failures. I provide support and believe that each person can be a musician.

Hard Of Hearing

I will hold a Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language interpretation from Gallaudet University, the only liberal arts university for the Deaf in the world. I am hearing and am extremely fortunate to be accepted at this school for the Deaf which is the best school to attend for ASL interpretation. I also hold a Deaf Skills Certificate from Columbus State Community College located in Columbus, Ohio.

Sign Language

I will graduate in May 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language interpretation from Gallaudet University, the only liberal arts university for the Deaf in the world. I have advanced knowledge of American Sign Language and am pre-certified under the National Interpreters Certification program. I use sign language on a daily basis, so I know the intricacies of this language very well.
