I have over 6 years of experience tutoring and helping students prepare for the MCAT. I use an eclectic style of tutoring, incorporating my knowledge and experience with a wide variety of test taking strategies. I base this knowing that every student is unique in their learning styles and no one approach works for all students. I help students identify weak areas in their core knowledge areas that the MCAT tests and help students come up with a study plan to fill in those gaps. I also emphasize skills to help students critically reason through passages and questions, as most questions require more than a simple regurgitation of scientific knowledge. I make my tutoring session interactive, doing exercises with students to practice using strategies and then troubleshoot problem areas in the moment.

As someone who took the MCAT myself and has graduated medical school, I also can serve as a mentor in helping students get through what is often considered the "hardest part" of getting into medical school! My style is also very flexible and I like to get student's feedback after each session to make sure I am meeting all of their needs. Tutoring for the MCAT has been a rewarding part time job as I pursue my own medical training, and I hope to continue to help students make their dreams of becoming part of this wonderful profession a reality!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

MCAT

I have over 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring for MCAT prep with test prep companies from 2005-2010 and briefly in 2012, while I have been completing my medical training. I have taken the exam myself, scoring a 35R (Physical Sciences 11, Verbal 11, Biologic Sciences 13). My educational background includes a B.S in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University in 2003 and a M.D from the University of Connecticut in 2010.
