About Me:
As a trained translator between English and French with rigorous translation experience for two international non-profit organizations, I've had to develop useful tools & techniques in order to quickly communicate complex concepts in French in simple, accurate terms in English for an American audience. To help maintain my French fluency while in the United States, I write and study thoughtful hip-hop music in French, which keeps me updated with the most relevant French colloquialisms and idiomatic structures. It is through my extensive exposure to both formal and informal French, from being a translator and hip-hop artist respectively, that I have helped many students make permanent improvements to their French speaking, reading and writing, while tutoring at a top midwestern liberal arts college, Lawrence University.

My Method:
I tutor on the philosophy that focused fun achieves the serious results students are looking for, and am a strong believer in flashcards. I always start from the book, then often pull heavily from French music and comedy in my sessions to ensure the student has a lifeline when trying to recall a difficult linguistic concept in the future. In Washington, DC, I know many are learning French for its real-world/professional application, and I'd love to contextualize my sessions accordingly, as a young American professional who regularly uses his French in the workplace.

About You:
I can empathize with a wide array of ages and French skill levels, since I've been learning French since the 6th grade. Beyond my 3 years of experience tutoring at Lawrence, I've been helping my 13 year old brother with his French since he started last year, and have experience teaching students with disabilities - my proudest accomplishment to date is teaching a 6th grader with cerebral palsy to play rock beats on the drum set.

Bottom Line:
If you're looking for a native French speaker who came by his/her fluency easily, or a drill sergeant, you've come to the wrong place. I've obtained my fluency partially studying abroad in France & as a French minor, and mostly through rigorous self-application and knowing what techniques are replicable & sustainable. I love traveling in and around the city, and have a 12 hour cancellation policy.
