I am a recent graduate of Haverford College, living and interning in Washington DC. I have a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Classical Languages and am looking to offer my assistance as a Latin and/or Greek tutor. Having studied Latin for eight years and Ancient Greek for three, I have a strong grasp of the intricacies and subtleties of Classical languages.
In the fall of 2011, I studied abroad at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies, where I attended intensive classes in Latin, Greek, Classical history, and archaeology. As a sophomore at Haverford, I received the Class of 1896 Prize in Latin, and the Classics Department awarded me the Howard Comfort Prize in Latin after my senior year. Time spent as a peer tutor and baseball counselor has also given me experience working with students of various ages and backgrounds.
Latin and Greek can often seem like daunting languages to master. Getting a handle on declensions, figuring out how to translate gerunds, and wading through crazy syntax is difficult and confusing. Once one begins to peel away the layers and acquire an appreciation for the languages, studying Latin and Greek becomes a rewarding experience and fun challenge. I am a laid back instructor, who views the study of Classical languages as an important part of a well-rounded education. My goal is to convey my knowledge of and passion for these languages to those who wish to learn them.
