Note to International Students:
Welcome! I have experience tutoring foreign students in English reading, writing, and slang usage, and am happy to help you too. I am a native American English speaker, born and raised in the Midwest. However, winning various merit scholarships throughout the course of my education has also allowed me to travel extensively and experience living and working in other countries with regional variations of English, including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and India, as well as life in countries where English is not as commonly spoken, such as Costa Rica and China. Your accent won’t throw me for a loop!

Scheduling:
Please note that because I work full-time, my hours of availability are in the evenings (7:30pm on) and on weekends. I am based in zip code 20002.

About Me:
I am a scientist and policy writer for the federal government. In the past I have also worked as a web-designer for nonprofits, a researcher for local government, and an event planner for the Smithsonian Institution. My educational background includes three Master’s degrees: Anthropology (University College London), Environmental Science – specializing in water resource management (Indiana University), and Public Affairs – specializing in policy analysis (Indiana University). My training both in the classroom and on the job has included a wide range of disciplines: anthropology, biology, chemistry, economics, finance, limnology, statistics, and political science, to name a few. This diverse background helps me help you learn because as your tutor, I can help you make connections in your material that you may not otherwise have made, making your learning process both easier and more enjoyable.

I first began tutoring back in high school, where I worked as a Classical Latin and writing tutor. During this time I won various writing competitions, a national Latin translation contest, and was nominated by my class of 947 students as "most likely to write the next Great American novel." From those early experiences tutoring, I learned not only the personal joy of teaching, but how to be a patient and effective instructor. Getting straight As and making Phi Beta Kappa (as I did) is wonderful, but being clever does not automatically make someone a good tutor – that comes with practice.
