Hi there, DC-area students and parents! My name is Anya, and I am a recent college graduate and new resident of Washington, DC. I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping your child excel in-- and more importantly, enjoy-- school. I serve as a tutor in many different areas, and am excellent with children and teenagers of all ages, with my experience as a Hebrew School Teacher, High School Civics Course Instructor, and College Guidance Mentor can definitely prove. I scored a 2250 on the new SAT (780 English, 690 Math, 780 Writing), and have helped multiple High School juniors and seniors compile strong college lists, pinpoint essay topics, and ultimately produce college applications that schools want to read.
I start tutoring much younger than college prep, though-- I can work on basic math and English skills with elementary school students, and start to focus more on English, History, and Social Studies as children get older. I scored a perfect 5 on the AP US History test and studied Political Science (the field in which I now work) in college.
Finally, as someone who has struggled to find effective study tools and to excel with AD/HD, I can help kids facing similar struggles. I've also found that my experiences make me a better tutor, since i know how crucial it is to keep kids engaged and interested, so I plan everything around individual students and their interests. Boring lessons lead to bored students, so I am particularly proud of my creativity in tutoring.
Please get in touch if you would like to schedule a meeting or if you have any questions at all. Thanks, and I look forward to working with you!
