Hi, everyone!

I am a Tufts University graduate with a wealth of experience preparing students for success on the SAT and ACT, for boosting their math scores and for teaching and tutoring Japanese.

I have studied Japanese for over 9 years and have lived in Japan for nearly six months. I am happy to teach basic and intermediate levels of Japanese, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Whether you are just starting out, or would like to become more confident in your Japanese knowledge, I am here to help.

If you are interested in building your or your child's confidence for college prep exams, math, Japanese or any other subject, I am the best value for a tutor.

I am always flexible to your schedule, so feel free to offer times that work for you!

As always, references from former students, parents, and teachers are available upon request.

Thank you!

Ezra

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

Personal ACT Scores:

Composite: 33
English: 34
Math: 33
Reading: 32
Science: 32

ACT Math

My personal ACT scores are:

Composite: 33
English: 34
Math: 33
Reading: 32
Science: 32

Additionally, I maintained strong math abilities throughout college, especially in graphical analysis, which has a large presence on the ACT.

ACT Reading

Personal ACT Scores: 33 Composite, 32 Reading

My BA in Political Science and Japanese from Tufts University gives me an exceptional ability to analyze complex pieces of writing, which is well-suited for the ACT.

ACT Science

ACT Scores: 33 Composite, 32 Science

As the ACT science section relies heavily on analysis comprehension of data in tabular and graphic form, I have a wealth of experience in analyzing complex data.

Algebra 1

Math can give many students trouble, and I have developed numerous strategies for limiting the stress that comes with difficulties in math class.

I bolster these approaches with my own high academic record in math. I earned high scores in math classes throughout high school, on standardized tests, and in college courses.

I have tips and tricks to make learning math simple and fun, and my hope is that the student comes to look forward to his or her tutoring sessions.

Algebra 2

I have had quite a few prior students in Algebra 2, with one currently, and have helped build their confidence with an integral math class for high school students. I have helped explain the importance of the math they learn in the classroom for their future and its usefulness in the "real world."

College Counseling

I virtually counseled myself through my own college process, with little to no input from friends and family, and successfully graduated a top-tier liberal arts university. Additionally, I have over 3 years of experience working in a college admissions office as a customer service associate, tour guide, and senior interviewer. In short, I know what colleges look for during the application process, and strongly feel I can help current high school students get into college.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have extensive experience working with elementary school students. I coordinated a literacy-based drama club during college, whereby third, fourth, and fifth-grade students took their favorite stories, wrote scripts, and produced three plays. I also tutored an elementary school student during her 4th and 5th-grade years in English, math, and science.

Elementary Math

I tutored an elementary school student during her 4th and 5th-grade years in English, math, and science for over 1.5 years. In that time, her test scores and overall confidence saw a dramatic increase. I have developed specific tips, tricks, and strategies to best guide elementary school students through any difficulty they might have with math.

English

I have a BA in Political Science and Japanese. I have extensive experience tutoring students in English to help them understand books and passages, enhance their writing ability, and build overall confidence.

General Computer

I have taught students and professors how to get the most out of WordPress blogs. I have also had an iPhone for over 4 years, and can expertly manage it's content.

Years of Experience:
iTunes: 5
WordPress: 2
iPhones: 4
Kindles: 1

Government & Politics

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Japanese from Tufts University, and have a wealth of experience with analytical writing for the social sciences.

Japanese

Years of study: 8
Time spent in Japan: 5 months

I have served as a personal translator for visiting Japanese groups to the United States, including interpreting a conversation between educational professionals in the U.S. and Japan.

Microsoft Outlook

I have quite a lot of experience utilizing Microsoft Outlook. For one summer, I interned in an office that required nearly constant use of Microsoft Outlook to coordinate projects, manage schedules, and keep track of task progress. These days, I have a full-time job where I send upwards of 75-100 emails per day using Microsoft Outlook. I also manage the calendars for three very busy attorneys.

Prealgebra

I have extensive experience working with elementary and middle school students. I coordinated a literacy-based drama club during college, whereby third, fourth, and fifth-grade students took their favorite stories, wrote scripts, and produced three plays. I also tutored an elementary school student during her 4th and 5th-grade years in English, math, and science.

I have tips and tricks to make learning math simple and fun, and my hope is that the student comes to look forward to his or her tutoring sessions.

Proofreading

Proofreading Qualifications:

I have a BA in Political Science and Japanese from Tufts University. I have served as a copy editor for daily publications. My current job requires me to proof documents everyday. Fellow classmates always called upon me to proof and edit their work on papers, essays, or articles. I have a love and passion for the English language, and love making other work better.

Social Studies

With a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Japanese, I feel I have a solid grasp of social studies, both from a social science perspective, but also a comparative cultural focus. I firmly understand the importance of studying history and how people interact to change the world in which they live. In my opinion, without positive social studies knowledge, students will have a more difficult time thriving in today's society.

Study Skills

Since I commonly tutor high school students, I often observe situations where a simple organizational structure would help build success and make studying less stressful. Similarly, I frequently find myself helping students understand how to answer a particular question, be it multiple choice or free response, and help them become better test takers. Finally, my job requires that I maintain meticulous organization habits, so I encounter these kinds of problems on a daily basis.

World History

I am very well-versed in World History after receiving a BA in Political Science and Japanese from Tufts University. If you are looking to do well in high school-level World History, I have extensive experience with that as well, having received a 5 on the AP World History exam.
