For the past five school years I have worked as a Special Educator at a high school, a comprehensive school in DCPS. My experience as a Special Educator has allowed me the opportunity to co-teach in a variety of subjects (English I,II,II, IV, Geometry, Algebra II)to a variety of learning/performance levels. I also teach a self-contained class that focuses on literacy. A large part of my responsibility is working with a caseload of students that I follow and support from their freshman to senior year. Last year it was a honor to watch my first caseload of students (that I taught during their entire high school career)graduate on time and have proof of acceptance to two-year and four-year colleges and universities. A large part of my success in helping students achieve their academic and post-secondary planning goals is focusing on and investing in students individually.
I host tutoring sessions during lunch and after school for students. I always start each session with working with the student in creating an objective that will help meet their overarching goal (writing a research paper, understanding a math concept, creating a resume, etc).
I am excited for the opportunity to work with students either in a one-on-one capacity throughout the summer to assist students in reaching personal academic goals.
