I have always been a very driven person, I enjoy challenging myself and encouraging myself to do better and be better whether that be in or out of the classroom. I really believe that a positive and encouraging approach is needed in any learning environment and academic experiences can shape the way a student views a subject area and how they ultimately perform in this area. It is from this core belief in constructive and positive enforcement that I inform my tutoring approach. Further, tutoring should instill not only further understanding of a subject, but how that subject interacts with the individuals world - hopefully guiding all students towards a love of learning.
I have had several experiences with tutoring and teaching in general. Having taught and tutored throughout high school and into college, I am able to prepare and present information in an organized and effective way. I also have worked for years with children. I've been a babysitter for at least 5 or 6 years now, I was a nanny for a summer, a camp counselor one summer as well, a CCD instructor, and a tutor for inner city elementary school children. This has given me a great deal of experience in working with kids and creating a positive environment for them to learn in along with positive methods to help them learn and see the material in a better light.
From my days in high school, I possess strong study habits, organizational skills, time management skills, and effective study techniques, that help me to be a better tutor and give any of my students constructive advice on how to better prepare for examinations.
I am currently a student at The George Washington University and received a 3.91 GPA last semester. Despite my GPA, I have struggled at times and it is these struggles which have taught me how to guide others towards higher achievement. I have found that sometimes difficulty with a subject comes from a lack of confidence or a true disdain for the material, therefore with a good tutor and a more positive experience a student's grade can improve greatly.
