Hello and Welcome!
I am a student at Northeastern University currently pursuing a Bachelors in International Affairs and Economics with minors in Political Science, Arabic, and History. I have always had a love for learning and helping others to learn. I have worked as a tutor while in High School assisting fellow students at my school ranging from the Elementary to the High School and many in between.
I have taken five of the Advanced Placement exams (US History, World History, US Government and Politics, English Composition and English Literature) and scored the highest marks on each. In addition, being a college student I have taken and received A's in courses in the topics previously mentioned.
I am also a published author in the Northeastern University Political Review, having written articles relating to the Electoral College and forecasting the 2016 presidential election.
I have three goals when tutoring a student.
My first goal is to connect with my students on a personal level and see it from their perspective. While I am not a Harvard Phd student or an ex-Teacher, I have plenty of experience in teaching others material in a way that they specifically understand it. Many students learn differently then others and I often present the same material, but just from a new, fresh, point of view.
My second goal is to make learning fun. If the student is frustrated, that is okay, that is perfectly normal. But to be bored by the material and to be disinterested cannot help a student's understanding of it. I know that if a student cares about what they are learning and asks questions, that naturally increases their understanding of what we are trying to learn.
My third goal is a promise I make to myself each time I begin tutoring a new student, and that is to always be there for them. I openly encourage my students to e-mail me, or even to shoot me a text message with any questions, anytime. In fact, that is what I call this policy, "Any Question, Anytime." What I'm promising here is that I will do all I can to ensure my students success, as that's what I'm here for.
A little about myself personally, I enjoy reading (books of all kinds!) and watching movies and following politics and current events.I grew up in Vermont next to the mountains, and as such I have a passion for skiing as well.

The ACT is a fearful dragon to be slain, but it can be done! Having scored a 32 on the reading portion of this exam, I have composed several strategies to conquer the reading section which involves expanding the base vocabulary combined with the development of critical reading skills and analysis.
I scored a 5 (out of 5) on the Advanced Placement US History exam. My love for American history stretches back to the early days of my childhood when I grew up idolizing Washington, Lincoln, and the Roosevelt's. I am well versed in all facets American history, from the story of the Americas before the Europeans and leading up the invention of the internet and the war on Terror.
In order to become a more effective writer having a base understanding of the functions of language is crucial, and the best way to learn is practice. Having taken and scored high on both Advanced Placement English Exams (Composition and Literature), I have created several components of a multi-faceted plan to advance a students skills in writing and understanding all the nuances of language.
Europe has a long and complex history, filled with the Princes of that or the Duke of this signing treaties of this-unpronounceable-city. Fortunately for us, it is very well documented, and I believe while knowing the key players is important, history needs to be seen as a series of trends and patterns over time. I work with my students to help them to step back and see the bigger picture, and then to write about it effectively and answer the dreaded multiple-choice questions not just through sheer memorization, but by understanding the context of history as a whole.
The World's a big place, but that is no reason not to learn all about it. Having a base knowledge of the geography of our world is key as geography ties into current events, history, and so much more. And fortunately, there are many ways to learn geography, not the least of which are games.
My area of expertise, I am an avid follower of politics and am well-informed on the workings of government. Scoring a 5 (out of 5) on the Advanced Placement US Government and Politics exam, I am also a published author in the Northeastern University Political Review, a well-respected political publication.
Ah, the wonderful world of literature. Having taken both AP English classes and exams, I can say that reading a book for school can somehow manage to be both enjoyable and frustrating at the time. My goal is to remove the frustrating part entirely by assisting the student to see the book (well, most of them anyway) for being what they are, works of art. Then we work on breaking down the book and analyzing all the pieces so that the student can articulate ideas and understand the underlying themes of the story.
I can not only work with a student to proofread their assignment(s), but this also includes utilizing teaching strategies to help avoid future mistakes and increase writing fluency.
Reading is a fundamental skill that is critical to success in all other academic areas, and life in general. If you or someone you know struggles with reading, there are several strategies I can employ that involve not only training the brain to read faster, but also to increase the comprehension level in addition to making reading an enjoyable, fun experience!
Scoring a 740 on this section, I often find that the key to this section is breaking it down and following the patterns that the piece provides. This involves adding and then applying critical reading skills and analysis to increase comprehension levels.
Building a good vocabulary base is key for any student. The idea here is to expand, practice, and apply new vocabulary that can enhance a students learning and academic experience.
While some see the History of the World as a boring list of names and dates, I prefer to view in the lends of the greatest story ever told. It is filled with all sorts of fascinating characters, and plot twists you never see coming. I hope to provoke a similar love of history in my students, for when tackling something as large as the history of the world, then some enthusiasm is needed.
