Hi everybody,
My name is Karlee and I may be the ideal ASL tutor for you!
I am Deaf from a Deaf family. I am currently a student at Gallaudet University (the only university for deaf in the world), majoring in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies and am expected to graduate in May of 2013! I'm also a world traveler, having been to more than 30 countries in the past 3 years (notice my profile picture of my 20th birthday in Malaysia more than an year ago). My experiences traveling have forever humbled me.
I believe I am resourceful when it comes to tutoring people about ASL. I will not only be teaching signs, but also the culture itself. I hope to bring people awareness of how much ASL have cultivated throughout the years and why it is so important to the deaf community. My mother is a CODA (child of deaf adults) and a teacher for the deaf, as well as a certified ASL interpreter. When it comes to using politically correct signs or the appropriate signs for sensitive fields (legal, interpreting, baby signs teaching, and so forth), I will be sure to work with my mother in giving you the correct signs.
I also have taken a couple of ASL classes to better understand the complex grammatical structure and type of signs so I may be of great assist to you in learning those. I can work with anyone of all ages and skill levels.
I look forward to hearing from you!
