Learning can be a challenging thing. Everybody has their way of learning and understanding things. Some are more analytical and practical while others are more mechanical. We all have our way of understanding things. Unfortunately we don’t always have someone around to show us how to do things in a way we understand.
Teaching is also challenging. There is a big difference between knowing something and showing others how to do something. To be a great teacher or tutor, you need good communication skills to be able to explain clearly an idea or topic so your audience can understand you.
Other qualities and skillsets are also important. Being resourceful allows you find different ways to approach and solve a problem. Being analytical allows you to clearly understand how something works.
In my professional career, I play a key role between technical and non-technical people. This involves not only working with both groups but also exchanging and communicating business and technical ideas to both of them in a way they'll understand. This role brings together all the fundamental qualities you want in a teacher or tutor. As a tutor, I would not just show the student how to do things but also help them understand the concepts, enabling them to troubleshoot and solve any problem.
Academically, I’m an Industrial and System Engineer with a Master’s degree in Management Information Systems. I have a passion for sharing knowledge and experiences. I consider tutoring a way of not just sharing what I’ve learned but also the tricks and shortcuts I use to work smarter and faster. I’m also bilingual, so tutoring in English and/or Spanish makes no difference.
