Hi! My name is Tim, and I am a current graduate student at the University of Maryland studying poetry. Before this, I've worked a number of jobs in education, and I have either taught full classes or tutored students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, including 1st grade Egyptian children in Cairo, 7th and 8th graders in Fort Lauderdale, high schoolers in Evanston, IL, and currently freshmen and sophomores at the University of Maryland. Though my passions and specializations revolve around English literature, essay composition, and creative writing, I have also taught SAT and ACT for the last year, both to individuals and to large groups.
I think tutoring is far and away the model par excellence for learning. Rather than a simple teacher-student relationship, where the teacher provides material and the student must absorb it, I've always preferred the more mutual, open, dynamic, and fun process of tutoring. I am a strong believer that learning comes hand in hand with experience, so my explanations or lessons are active – they involve more than just listening, and they are, I hope, fun!
