I am a multilingual professional with over five years of tutoring and teaching experience. Most recently, I spent three years working in English language and composition tutoring at a major Division-one university athletics department, and have resided in the DC area since last summer. If you or your student needs fast improvement in English, Spanish or Portuguese classes, you can count on me. I am available to tutor high school, college and adult professional courses, basic to advanced.
Upon obtaining my BA in Spanish, I worked for three years in Quito, Ecuador, where I was responsible for designing curricula and language programs. I taught English to professionals and university students alike, and oversaw business marketing. This is in addition to translation services, which was another key job activity. TOEFL and SAT/GMAT Verbal tutoring are also strengths of mine.
I have an MBA and MA in Latin American Studies, and have spent time living and conducting field research in Brazil. I am a recognized language fellow in Portuguese, to go along with full language fluency in Spanish.
For those wanting to know more about foreign language tutoring methods, I rely on a combination of the communicative language approach for foreign language learners supplemented with a structured grammar background. I make cultural awareness and relevant cultural content a cornerstone of the tutoring experience. I will also utilize everyday language and conversation practice, and you can expect to find a relevant array of activities that will make each session interesting.
