My 16 years of full-time English teaching experience at independent schools such as St. Anselm’s Abbey School have helped me prepare dozens of students for college. I’ve worked with Upward Bound students and in tutoring settings as well, and I’ve learned that the best method of helping a student is one which is custom-designed for that individual. I am an expert at helping students strengthen their weaknesses and enhance their strengths. Because working one-on-one has always been part of my teaching, I can figure out the best way to help each individual to grow as an effective reader and an efficient writer. Critical thinking skills and critical writing capabilities ought to be within reach of every student.
To tutoring, I also bring experience at helping students to prepare for tests such as the PSAT, SAT, and Advanced Placement. Additionally, I have worked with juniors and seniors on the process of writing college entrance essays that can help them stand out from the crowd of college applicants. When I taught part-time for three years at Montgomery College, Speech 101, an introductory oral communication course was an undergraduate requirement. The course included public speaking as well as group and interpersonal communication.
When a student works with me, she or he works hard. And when a student works with me, s/he’s got a teammate and fan as well as a pro coach.
