I am a highly experienced social studies teacher with 26 years experience. I have taught all social studies in grades 7-12 in a variety of settings: College prep High schools, career schools, Middle and Junior High Schools. I continually keep up by reading in US Politics, American and World History, Economics, and local history. During my tenure in DCPS, I have experience with developing End of Course Exams, new educational standards, and pacing guides for Geography, US History, Government, and Entrepreneurship. I have also been a consultant for National Geographic TV and the DC History Museum.
In addition to regular classroom instruction, I have worked as a tutor at the Middle and Senior High level, and in summer programs such as DC Summer School and NFTE Business Camps (BizCamps). I have taught AP US government and US History.
Tutoring requires constant assessment and engagement with the student, regardless of age. Each student has a learning style and comes with a baseline of knowledge and skills; the tutor's role is to help motivate the student and organize the sessions for greatest impact.
