Hi, my name is Marisa M. I'm 24 and originally from the Metro Detroit area. I graduated from Michigan State University where I studied Sociology and International Development. I've lived in DC for about a year and really like it here! I have a lot of experience working with youth and in the education field. I tutored refugee high school students at a Lansing, MI high school during my senior year of college. Then I spent a semester teaching English as a Second Language in Quito, Ecuador. I came back to Michigan and worked at a Montessori charter school as a Title I Aide for students in 1st-4th grade. This entailed me working one on one with my students who needed extra help in reading or math a few times a week. This past year I was an AmeriCorps member at the Latin American Youth Center. Part of my job included working in the after school program at Powell Elementary every day. I worked with nine 3rd grade students and helped them with their homework. I really enjoy working with kids and helping them learn!
