Hello, my name is Dan! I am able to help you with all of your Spanish language needs. After having obtained a BA in Spanish and English (a semester of which was spent studying Spanish at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica), I continued on to graduate school at the University at Buffalo. I taught four sections of undergraduate Spanish over the course of four semesters (100 and 200 level courses) while taking graduate coursework in Spanish language and literatures. I graduated with a MA in Spanish Language and Literature from the University at Buffalo in 2007. Since then I have continued with my education to get a second master's degree so that I could become a school librarian, which is my current profession.
My educational philosophy is simply this: that all students can achieve results through their own hard work coupled with the teaching of an experienced teacher/tutor. This is equally true for both my public school profession at present, as it is for the students to whom I taught (and teach) Spanish. I am very patient with students learning a new language, and I employ different methods in my instruction based on the student's needs. I try to speak in Spanish as much as is possible in my lessons, but I will always stop to address your questions and concerns. Spanish has been one of my passions since I initially struggled with it as a high school student, and so I understand many of the worries students feel. I enjoy teaching all levels of students, from those at the most basic level to those at the most advanced. In tutoring sessions I can address whatever you bring to the table: homework issues, books and other Spanish materials you would like help with, etc. I can teach concepts that are new to you, as well as help you with any review you might need. We can meet at a public location convenient to you, or we can even conduct the session over the phone. In short, if you (or your child ) would like help learning Spanish, please feel free to contact me soon so that we can get you on the road to success with Spanish!
If you want to learn French, on the other hand, I can help you with that, too! I have an undergraduate minor in French, and I spent 9 months living and working in France on my own. I am comfortable teaching French to children up until the end of high school; that said, I am not able to help with French at the undergraduate or graduate levels. Whether for school, work, or pleasure, if you would like help learning French, please let me know!
