I am an avid learner of foreign languages and have been tutoring/teaching language for about 7 years. I have taught Persian for US Government employees. Most recently I lived in Almaty, Kazakhstan where I took classes in Kazakh, improved my own Russian language skills, taught English Composition, Reading Comprehension, and Critical Thinking, worked as a writing tutor and helped to run an English Language Club for residents of the city. Students learn best when they are engaged with material being taught. In my English classes in Kazakhstan I used everything from sitcoms to crossword puzzles to pop music videos to trivia contests. I took my students salsa dancing and rafting, all the while exposing them to aspects of English outside the typical grammar one might get in a classroom. Everyone learns differently and it is the teacher/tutor's task to determine the learning style that best fits the student.
