I am here to help you reach your academic goals. I have over 20 years of experience in customized tutoring and specialized instruction. I create custom tutorials for elementary, high school and college students with CompEdPlan in Washington, DC. I work with students at school, in home, at libraries and wherever is conducive to academic studies. As an instructor at the the university and college levels, I have the teaching and communications experience with students of all levels. My areas of particular expertise are in English, Writing, Reading, Public Speaking, English and a Second Language, and Intercultural Communications. I have vast experience in custom tutorials with students in general and special education. I believe that students benefit from one-on-one custom tutorials. Each student has a unique way of learning. In my experience students thrive in a safe and nurturing learning environment where students feel able to ask questions and receive dedicated attention.
Your child can benefit from one-on-one tutoring because I cover topics specific to your child's needs. I spend more time on what they have questions on while explaining the underlying principles, and less time on what they have already mastered. I have an exceptional backgrounds and credentials dedicated to students and their academic achievements. I provide tutoring in all subjects and levels while specializing in writing, reading, math, and standardize testing prep. I provide academic and tutoring assistance to children and adults who are learning English as a Second Language. My services include: learning English basics (formal versus informal usage), subject pronouns, verb conjugation, forming plurals, contractions, indefinite articles, basic sentence construction, date and time, cultural specific holidays, etc. Students will gain practical experience through Interpersonal modes of communication where they initiate, participate in oral and written exchange. Students also will become familiar with Interpretive modes of language communication where they are able to identify main ideas and interpret cultural specific information. Students will learn to interpret verbal and non verbal cues to differentiate between complex sentences and questions.
Additionally, I offer a wide range of speech, language and academic services. I create or can refer students for evaluations and screenings. Through nurturing one on one tutoring my goal is to maximize each student's strengths and help overcome his or her challenges in cooperation with parents and other professionals. Speech, language, social communication and learning disorders have been my expertise. Tutoring services are available at academic facilities such as schools or libraries, or in your home. I develop tutorials and implement a plan of action according to the student’s individual needs and learning style. The plan may be based on our evaluation, a review of outside evaluation reports and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), or both. I also accept Compensatory Education plans.
For Homeschooled Children:
If you teach your children at home, and have a struggling learner, I will serve as a consultant on issues related to speech-language, social and learning difficulties. Homeschooling parents often find my services are an effective alternative to public school special education programs. Your teaching methods can be tailored to your child’s unique style of learning. I will help facilitate an environment free of the labels, social pressures, and distractions found in a regular classroom. I will show parents/teachers ways to carryover activities to the homeschool setting.
