Over the past 14 years I have been instrumental in elementary, middle school and adult learning as a substitute instructor, a resource teacher, first grade teacher, and middle school special education teacher, and life and career coach. I know firsthand the power of tutoring and being tutored in reading and writing comprehension and study skills. Although I had problems as a student and as an adult learning, I, because of tutors and support have received my Master's in Teacher Education from American University and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Iowa.
I am certified as a DCPS-K-6 in Elementary Education until 2014.
I had the opportunity to work with a middle school LD (Learning Disabled) population who hid their reading abilities for years because they were embarrassed and ridiculed when called on to read. I was able to assist them through incorporating into their lesson plans "storytelling" and "literature circles." My students increased their level of comprehension and reading confidence over the course of the school year, not only reading completely their first novel but five. Tutoring is a one on one relationship with the learner and their learning environments, asking questions around interest, confidence, challenges, practice, and support leading to actual tangible results.
Hire me as your tutor whether your challenges are with reading, life skills, or career development. Passion drives most career interest!
