Dear student(s) and families,
I truly believe "the child is in me still, and sometimes not so still", one of my favorite quotes by Mister Rogers. I believe that learning is like an adventure with a new discovery for each lesson. I know what many students don't acknowledge— that some discoveries will be more challenging than others but not impossible. I’ve had wonderful opportunities to volunteer and work with children throughout my professional career. I am currently a second grade
teacher at a local DC charter school.
I have been trained to tutor specifically in reading
and mentoring elementary aged students. I have been trained in the Wilson Reading
System, a scientifically proven reading program for individuals that cannot read. In my day job, I have taught all subjects. Subjects include grammar
, reading, vocabulary
, non-fiction reading, debate, science
, social studies
, speaking, math
, and writing
. I have also been certified to teach English
as a foreign language
with an additional grammar endorsement. I created a Math Club for my second grade students last year, in which I was able to really tutor and develop true mathematicians after school.
I love working with students, and I know I am most effective in improving student performance when I can work one-on-one or in a small group setting. I like getting to know my students, praising them for their strengths and finding creative solutions for their weaknesses. My tutoring philosophy
is that everything happens for a reason. Even when students make mistakes and fail assessments, I believe in encouraging students to learn from their errors. The strongest student learns from their own mistakes and the mistakes of others. There is no failure except to not try. I completely endorse Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus, as she says, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy.”
I hope you choose me to partner with you to help you reach your academic goals.
Tutors have the ability to create educational resources and share them with the WyzAnt community.
Here are some of the resources created by Elisabeth.

There are many educational resources online that promise results, but also require payment upfront. They may have a trial period, which may leave you still uncertain. However, I do not think BrainPop.com nor BrainPopJr.com are educational products you should
doubt if your child has any interest in robots, cartoons, bright colors, and curiosity. I highly recommend BrainPop online resources.
Multiplication facts are the bane of every elementary student who has better things to memorize...their favorite Pokemon's powers, who Justin Bieber is dating, or what time The Suite Life comes on the Disney Channel.
Memorizing multiplication facts does NOT have to be so dry and boring. Introduce your student to fun multiplication review games online. Check out the links to the free games...
