Hi! My name is Sarah, and I'm a Ph.D. Candidate and Adjunct Professor at American University. I'd like to help you (or your son/daughter) succeed in classes and on standardized tests. I have over ten years experience tutoring (4th grade-college). Through my experiences in education, I've gained a unique perspective as to what college and university administrators and professors are looking for in applicants and I tailor my tutoring to help students succeed and learn skills during their secondary school years that will lead to even greater success at university.
My approach to tutoring is to be serious and focus on conquering the material at hand, but to make it fun, too. My students will tell you that the frequently find themselves laughing during my classes or tutoring sessions. I illustrate points with outrageous examples, which leads to a lot of laughter--and students remembering what they are learning.
Mom/Dad: if you're curious about my qualifications, I'm happy to send you a complete resume. In short, I'm from Iowa (the home of Educational Testing Service, the company who developed and administers the ACT and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills). I started taking the ACT and SAT when I was 12 years old, began college when I was 14; graduated with a double-major, worked at a real job for three years, and then decided to pursue a Ph.D. I should finish writing my dissertation in 2012. My husband, a lawyer, and I live in Washington, D.C. We love to travel, hang out with our adorable nephews, and cook.
