ACT English
My English exam scores have always been among the highest, and I have loved both reading and writing English for as long as I can remember. So, it was almost inevitable that I would major in English in college. Since then, I have enhanced and enjoyed the use of my English communication skills professionally and personally. I have taught English at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and as a college business professor and journal editor, I have had to read and write extensively in addition to teaching business communication. I have also had many professional articles published in academic journals and books.
ACT Reading
Reading can be so much fun! Since childhood, I have loved to read. Books and stories have helped me to write better, taken me to far away places, taught me how to do many new things, answered many questions, and sparked my imagination. For that reason, I majored in English in college. Since then, I have taught reading for many years, but the most important benefit of reading for me has been its enhancement of my professional and personal ability to continuously learn.
Business
I possess my MBA and Doctorate degrees in Business Management and for over twenty years have taught and done consulting in the various areas of business management at schools including George Mason University, Virginia State University, York College of PA, and Wharton. Subjects include business communication/technical writing, organizational behavior, management principles, nonprofit management, strategy, finance, statistics, and business plan development.
Elementary (K-6th)
I earned my first graduate degree in elementary and secondary education. In my first teaching job, I worked with emotionally disturbed preschoolers in Montgomery County, MD. And, for the next several years, I taught elementary school students in Macon County, AL before becoming a college professor of business. In the past two years since retirement, I have tutored elementary, secondary and college students in math, reading, writing, business, and statistics.
Elementary Math
Math can be so much fun! My father loves math and taught me to love it. So, I also enjoy helping others to improve their math skills and to understand the need for numbers. I am very patient with my students, and I provide many explanations, examples, and different teaching methods to make learning math as simple and practical as possible. Enhancing student ability and confidence in math provides a child with a solid foundation for their success in other subjects and in daily living.

Good grammar is so important! It can make a difference in the first impression you make, and in your writing, it can also make a difference in people's perception of your intelligence and credibility. Perhaps it shouldn't, but it does! For these reasons, I have worked hard to learn and use good grammar, and I love helping others improve this skill. I majored in English in college. Literature
Books allow you to experience and enjoy so many worlds that you can never see in person. They can teach you so much that you could never learn on your own, and they can stimulate your imagination in many extraordinary ways. They can also improve your reading and writing skills immeasurably. For these reasons, I have always loved literature and read extensively. Since my undergraduate college years as an English major, I have enhanced and enjoyed the use of my English communication skills professionally and personally. I have taught English at the elementary and high school levels, and as a college business professor and journal editor, I have had to read and write extensively in addition to teaching business communication. I have also had many professional articles published in academic journals and books.
Prealgebra
Prealgebra can be useful and so much fun! I have loved math since I was a little girl, and I enjoy helping others appreciate the need for math and helping them to improve their math skills. I am very patient with my students, and I provide many explanations, relevant examples, and different teaching methods to make learning math as simple and practical as possible. Proofreading
Proofreading is a skill that everyone should work to develop. It can help you make sure that your writing is accurately conveying the facts, correctly spelling and using all words, and actually expressing your thoughts in the form and tone that you intended. Proofreading the work of others is both a skill and an art, requiring the proofreader to make word and usage corrections but also to effectively communicate with the writer to understand what was intended. I love writing and proofreading my own work, and I also love helping others to proofread their own work and skills. As a result, I have developed an excellent vocabulary and appreciation for the English language. I majored in English in college, since then, I have enhanced and enjoyed the use of my English communication and proofreading skills both professionally and personally. I have taught English and journalism at the elementary and high school levels, and as a college business professor and journal editor, I have had to read, write, and proofread extensively in addition to teaching business communication. I have also had many professional articles published in academic journals and books.
Public Speaking
My 20+ year career as a college business professor and consultant has involved me extensively in public speaking. In teaching various management, finance, statistics, and business communication courses, I was applying public speaking skills in the classroom. Additionally, my business communication courses required me to teach and critique students on their public speaking skills. In my years of department level management, I had to represent the department at public forums. I have also presented my business related research and articles at many academic conferences and in other public settings.
Reading
Reading has taken me to the far corners of the world and has allowed me to explore the created lands invented by visionaries more imaginative than I could even be. SAT Writing
Your writing says so much more about you than the message you intended. The words you choose, the ways you phrase your sentences, and the grammar you use make a big difference in how you are perceived and how your message is received. You may unintentionally sound angry or be perceived as ignorant regarding an issue on which you are quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately, you are not always there to clarify any misunderstandings. So, it is very important that your writing says exactly what you meant before you lose an opportunity or inadvertently create ill-will. I majored in English in college because I love to read and write. Since then, I have enhanced and enjoyed the use of my English reading and writing skills professionally and personally. I have tutored students in SAT preparation, and I have taught English at the elementary and high school levels. As a college business professor and journal editor, I have had to read and write extensively in addition to teaching business communication. I have also had many professional articles published in academic journals and books. Also, creative writing is one of my hobbies.
Statistics
I love statistics because it is so useful. By helping the weather forecaster predict whether it is likely to rain today, statistics helps you determine whether you should take your umbrella. Similarly, it provides information for business managers to decide whether to begin a new program, sell a new product, or drop an unsuccessful program or product line. Statistics also helps scientists determine which new drugs will be most effective in curing specific diseases or at least managing their symptoms. Believe it or not, statistics is one of the more practical types of quantitative analysis, and it can be a joy to learn because it helps provide answers and solutions to everyday questions and needs.
Vocabulary
Words have such great value! And, the more words you know, the more you can understand of what you read and hear. The larger your vocabulary, the better you will be able to communicate with others both orally and in writing. You will be able to better adjust your wording to fit the level of your audience, and you can feel confident that you and your writing, your speeches, and your conversations are perceived and understood just as you intended.
Writing
Everyone must write sometimes, whether personally or professionally. So, to achieve your objective, it is very important that your writing says exactly what you mean. Otherwise, you may lose an opportunity or inadvertently create ill-will through your writing. The way a person writes makes a statement about that person that is beyond the meaning or interpretation of the message that is intended. The ways you phrase your sentences, the words you select, and the grammar you use make a big difference in the tone you set and in how you are perceived. I majored in English in college because I love to read and write. I very much enjoy helping others improve their writing skills.
