I have experience being a tutor in Washington, DC for kindergarten & early elementary education students. I prefer to work with younger students. I view them as seedlings who will grow into lovely flowers in the coming years. A good grounding in the early grades will help many students in the future. Also, I believe that education is a passport to a good future for these youngsters.
My experience working as a tutor has been, so far, within the framework of the DC public school requirements. I prefer to tutor younger students in reading basics, which, I believe, has been terribly neglected in the public schools. My basis of teaching reading is on phonics. I also have tutored in basic math skills, utilizing puzzles & games to get youngsters familiar with addition & subtraction problems. I love reading to students & having them also read aloud to me. To be sure that they are comprehending what they read, I usually go over the material with questions or puzzles.
I live in DC NW area. I do not have a car so I can only reach you via public transportation. I took education in college and received a B.A. I excelled in my student teaching exercises, and also substitute taught when I lived in Los Angeles, California.
