I have substantial experience working with students in the area of mathematics. My undergraduate training in mathematics allows me to explain concepts in a less complex manner. The key to teaching elementary mathematics is making the learning process fun and enjoyable.
I have prepared more than 15 students in the past year to pass the math and verbal portion of the ASVAB. I work with the students on not only refreshing their basic math skills, but also test taking strategies. Additionally, I have helped them strengthen their verbal skills. I also have experience working with students on the verbal and science sections as well. All of my students have scored well enough to enter their desired branch of the military. I believe that with hard work and preparation anything is possible.
Throughout my years of tutoring, I have helped many Elementary students get on their feet and do better in the classroom. I have worked with the age group k-6th for almost 11 years. I started my work as an instructor for an multi-state Arts and Sciences camp. After finishing with the camp, I became a curriculum developed for science courses such as kitchen chemistry, yuck science, and marine biology. I have classroom experience because I have been a substitute school teach for five years. More recently I was the director of an Education and Enrichment before and after school program for pk-5th grade. As a part of that program I developed lessons to engage the minds of all ages in areas such as science, arts, and reading. My experience and enthusiasm to help this particular age group to learn are my perceived strengths. I am always looking for unique ways to make learning fun! I try to approach tutoring in a fun and exciting way for them. Therefore, they not only learn but, also keep up the skills acquired from our sessions.
I have substantial experience working with students in grades K-5th. I have worked as an elementary school substitute teacher for over 6 years. The key to teaching elementary mathematics is making the learning process fun and enjoyable. I do my best to understand students' learning styles and adapt my teaching methodologies so that they can grasp the foundational concepts of mathematics easier and more efficiently.
Throughout my academic career, I was constantly figuring out new studying skills according to each class I would be enrolled in. I managed well in my classes and learned new strategies along the way. I have experience in tutoring, one of the most important aspects is encouraging the student to develop efficient study habits, in order to continue doing well even after the tutoring sessions are over. We all have different methods of learning, and I can find the most suitable method to expose to the student. I have experience with helping young people of all ages acquire the tools and skills needed to pass a test successfully. Some students just need strategies and help retaining the information for the test. Though learning just for a test is helpful it is also more beneficial to learn the information so that you retain it long term. As a student I struggled with text anxiety which forced me to learn unique ways of reading materials for a full understanding.
My specific experience with teaching study skills and test taking is from not only a personal standpoint, but I have also worked with students at both the middle school and elementary level on preparing for tests. I can help your child with organizational skills, how to use homework as a more helpful resource for test taking, and being prepared. It is my goal to give a young person the strategies to be a successful test taker and organized student.
