I am a recent Georgetown University graduate with a Bachelor's degree in English and Psychology, looking to tutor in English reading and writing, as well as SAT test prep. I have been tutoring 1st- through 5th-graders in D.C. Public Schools for three years through the Georgetown University program "DC Reads." I have worked both inside and outside of the classroom, in one-on-one and small group settings. I have tutored high school students in SAT Reading and SAT Writing; part of my role as tutor was also to help prepare my students' college applications, including personal statements. I have also worked for The Hoya, Georgetown's newspaper of record, for three years — working in the copy section, which focuses primarily on grammar, fact-checking and style, for two years and serving as Managing Editor for one year.
My tutoring style is extremely thorough and interactive, but most importantly it is tailored to the individual student or group of students with whom I am working. The best way to engage a student and ensure that long-term learning is achieved is to relate the course material or learning objective to the student's pre-existing interests. Also, in my Foundations of Education coursework at Georgetown, I gained an understanding of various learning styles, which are incredibly important to consider when constructing a lesson or curriculum. I set attainable short-term and long-term goals that the student can understand and feel good about achieving.
I look forward to meeting with your student and working toward some of your own goals!
