Williams Graduate Tutors Mathematics, Economics and Test Prep

I graduated from Williams College as a mathematics and economics double major. I received both thesis and Latin honors. As a mathematics and economics double major, I feel I have acquired strong analytic skills with these subjects and the ability to teach them well. While an undergraduate, I simultaneously maintained jobs as an on-call tutor for the mathematics and economics departments and a teaching assistant for the mathematics, economics or philosophy departments, all while playing on a National Championship winning varsity basketball team. I have also developed the skill of being able to convey economic concepts to interested individuals clearly and effectively. Furthermore, the many statistics classes I have taken have given me a familiarity with using a variety of statistic software packages. I was awarded the class of 1957 scholarship for my work at Williams and was a national finalist for the Rhodes scholarship out of District II in 2005.

Currently, I am working on a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Maryland. My goal is to teach at an elite Liberal Arts College or University. I teach economics classes at the University of Maryland. The areas I am most comfortable tutoring are micro economics, mathematics, and statistics.

I was also tutor for the high end math SAT prep tutor for a local SAT prep company and specialized in taking students scoring high 600's and low 700's on the math to high 700's and 800. I am confident I can help boost GRE scores in the same way.

Also it is not a category, but I know how to solve and teach other people how to solve the Rubik's Cube in case anyone is interested. I also charge a much lower rate for that cause it is just fun to teach and silly enough where no one will pay my SAT Math rate to be shown how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

SAT Math

Part of what I do is help students leverage the limitations of the exam to their advantage. This is done because I know how these test questions are created and written as well as some of the limitations put on the questions. Economics

I am getting a PhD in economics. As a graduate student I have TA'ed for introductory and intermediate microeconomics. Now that I have advanced to candidacy I teach my own 400 level Public Finance elective. The class I teach covers Game Theory, Environmental Economics, Taxes, Law and Economics, Labor Economics and Public Goods.

I am competent in macroeconomics and its sub-fields, but it is not my primary area of research.

Basketball

From 8 to 18 yrs old I attended then worked my father's highly successful 'Fun With Fundamentals' basketball champs held across Western, PA. He is a former college basketball coach and now a tenured Health and Physical Education professor who has written several books on how to run day and overnight sports camps. SAS

I programmed in SAS and STATA for two years at the Brookings Institution, a top tier think tank and use it regularly for my own research as a PhD in Economics. I am primarily self taught but did take some formal certification in SAS I and II.

Linear Algebra

I was a math major at Williams College one of the top undergraduate math programs in the country. I took Linear Algebra as a freshman and got an A. I use Linear Algebra regularly in my statistics courses and research.

STATA

I programmed in SAS and STATA for two years at the Brookings Institution, a top tier think tank and use it regularly for my own research as a Ph.D in Economics. I am primarily self-taught but did take some formal certification in SAS I and II. I can write do files, clean data, and run regressions easily in STATA and am confident I can quickly figure out how to do anything a first time user would be asked to do for a class assignment.
