My name is Angel, and I am originally from Chicago, IL. I obtained my B.A. from the George Washington University in Political Science, with a journalism minor. Since then, I have worked as an assistant in an autism classroom and as a second grade Spanish immersion teacher. Prior to that, I worked for two years as a full time tutor, catering to students of all ages.
At the moment, I am pursuing a Master's in Secondary Education at GW with a major in social studies and ESL. After obtaining my B.A., I discovered that I have a burning passion for language instruction, specifically helping newcomers to this country learn and improve their English.
However, ESL is not the only subject with which I can help. As both my parents are from Spain, I am 100 percent fluent in Spanish and have extensive experience helping students learn the language during the past few years.
In addition, I am quite experienced in writing. In high school I worked for the school paper, where I served as executive editor, front-page editor, and dining and film columnist. While there, I won a number of awards for my writing. In high school, I also volunteered at an afterschool tutoring service in Chicago's Hispanic Pilsen neighborhood.
With respect to scheduling, I prefer to meet in public places close to public transportation. As I live in Washington, DC, I prefer to meet students inside the district, but I have some flexibility in that as well.
