I am a former corporate financial executive and a financing consultant. I was also an Air Force pilot and am a retired Lieutenant Colonel with twenty eight years of flying, twenty-one with the Air National Guard. In my financial career, correct grammar and a clear style in writing were a necessity and I continually used mathematics from basic to advanced. My tutoring experience consists of several years of helping my youngest son who had a difficult time at both the elementary and secondary level. I also helped him with college business courses. In addition, while an aircraft commander flying the C-5 cargo jet on international missions, I was regularly instructing new pilots in required procedures and safe decision making involving weather, fuel management and related subjects.
My tutoring methods are student friendly and flexible. I definitely expect my students to put a good effort into learning. When my son was having a very difficult time learning to read I introduced a totally different method than his school used and it worked very well (the school concurred). In tutoring him in Math, I found that he learned much quicker if the particular topic was explained visually and, if possible, related to his real life interests. I try to determine how a student can learn a subject the best and teach that way. I always use the student's textbook and assigned lessons but may utilize different examples or suggest a supplementary text if they could be helpful.
