My name is Dale and I can't wait to work with you on your musical goals!
I am a musician, private teacher, conductor, clinician, and rising composer for film and television from West Hartford, Connecticut. I'm currently the music director at the Hamden Academy of Dance and Music, the front ensemble percussion instructor for Lyman Hall High School, and an educational representative from JC Music LLC, among various other musical positions I hold around the state of Connecticut.
For my education, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Percussion degree from the University of Connecticut in May of 2012 and was an active member of both the university's Winds and Percussion Ensembles. In my studies, I have taken advanced courses in composition, orchestration, conducting, percussion technique, and brass technique. I have 12 years experience in percussion, 14 years experience in guitar, and 21 years experience in piano. Some of my teachers include Nancy Campagnola (piano), Ronald Blouin (guitar), Jacqueline Rodriguez (marimba), Peter Coutsouridis (concert percussion), JC Caillouette (woodwind & brass), acclaimed marimbist Haruka Fujii (mallet percussion), American Symphony Orchestra percussionist Javier Diaz (Latin percussion), and orchestral composer Kenneth Fuchs (composition), who has twice been nominated for a Grammy award.
Currently a freelance instrumental composer for Ear Goo Inc. in New York City, I write multi-genre works for film, television, promotional trailers, and advertisements. My vast clientele includes household names such as Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Sony, Revlon, and Coca-Cola. I am actively represented by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a world-renowned performing rights organization that also represents artists such as Eminem, Shakira, and Maroon 5. On April 3, 2012, I hosted my first composition recital at the Von Der Mehden Recital Hall (UConn), where I showcased six live, original works, including a piano solo, a euphonium solo, a woodwind sextet, and a percussion quartet. My music for marching band was performed on a weekly basis during the 2012 competitive season in USSBA Class III competitions around Connecticut by the Trojan Marching Band at Lyman Hall High School, where I hold a job as their percussion instructor.
As a clinician, I have been asked to judge timpani, mallet percussion, and snare drum at several Regional Music Festivals around the state since 2009. I have also given presentations on the importance of installing/maintaining a music and arts curriculum in the Connecticut public school system as well as the history and proper care of mallet percussion instruments. My current position as an Educational Representative for JC Music allows me to act on my beliefs by servicing the music departments in public, private, and magnet schools across the state, so that students will be sure to have the music and the instruments they need in order to better experience the world of music.
As a performing musician, I have appeared in several venues across the state, most recently at the storied Shubert Theater in New Haven, which hosted the world premiere of my composition, an original piano solo that was well-received. I have played in live productions and musicals with both the Connecticut Repertory Theater and the Church of the Resurrection Youth Group, while winning numerous awards for my musicianship, including Lyman Hall’s “Outstanding Musician Award” for three consecutive years. Among numerous charitable events I have partaken in, I performed selected works by marimbist Daniel Berg on the piano as part of the Hamden Academy’s annual canned food drive, where together we raised over 500 cans of food for those without homes. Outside of music, my interests include baseball, video games, creative writing, jogging, and the ocean.
As a private tutor, I focus on a process I refer to as "Fun & Fundamentals!" In my opinion, it isn't enough to just teach scales, chords, progressions, and theory - my students should also be actively engaged in performing and learning about music that interests them. Therefore, in addition to learning proper technique, my students will also learn how to play music by their favorite musical artists, regardless of genre. This ensures that each student will be actively engaged and encouraged in their private lessons, instilling the desire to practice and immerse themselves in the musical world that is ever-changing. Music is about having fun, so why make it seem like work?
