Hello! I am a writing tutor and English teacher employed at Capital Community College. I love languages and am fluent in Spanish from having lived in Honduras, Colombia, and Spain. I graduated from University of Massachusetts summa cum laude with a B.A. in Spanish and Certificate in Translation. For more than a decade, I worked as a Spanish-English translator while also working as a copyeditor and proofreader of American medical journals. I have a good deal of experience teacher speakers of other languages. Last summer, I guided a small group of ESL students in the use of a computer program to improve reading and writing skills and led daily grammar workshops that focused on students' particular interests. Having lived in Europe as well as Latin America, I am knowledgeable about cultural differences and about the challenges of learning a second language. In addition to being fluent in Spanish, I am an advanced-intermediate student of French and speak some Italian. I hold a master's degree in art from Boston University and have completed graduate work in school psychology at University of Hartford. I am currently completing coursework to a certified K-12 Spanish teacher and will earn my certification this coming May. I can help you become a better writer, improve your study skills, or become proficient in a foreign language. I tutor with patience, warmth, and a sense of humor!
