I thoroughly enjoy working with students - it's especially heart-warming to help a student who is struggling and perhaps discouraged - to watch them light up as they understand their work, regain their skills, and once again look forward to going to class!
I'm a patient, friendly, and very effective tutor for science and math students in grades 7-12, with skills and instincts honed over many years of teaching and tutoring - and so I sincerely look forward to helping you and your child. All the sciences are a wonder and a joy, and your child should have the opportunity to experience them that way - let me help you make that happen for him or her.
When you're choosing a tutor for your child, real classroom teaching experience matters! Quality tutoring is much more than helping with homework - it means listening to how your child thinks and watching how they work, finding the missing piece or the misunderstood piece, and then working with your child to re-build their understanding, their skills, and their ability to apply them.
Tutoring at your home makes it possible for me to review every session with you and your child as soon as it's over. This provides an excellent re-cap for the student and keeps you in-the-loop at all times.
I'm a retired physics and chemistry teacher and my working career also included ten years of medical research. I hold a BS in Physics, an MS in Biology, and advanced certifications as a Science Specialist and in Cognitive Studies - how people learn. I taught in Avon, Cromwell, Bolton, and West Hartford public schools and was named the Connecticut Distinguished Physics Teacher by the American Physical Society. I'm also a Past President of the New England Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
