I was a substitute teacher at Stamford Public Schools 2005-2009. I enjoy helping special ed pupils while teaching the lesson plan. I make lessons interesting. I am a native Stamfordite. I also lived in Japan during my senior year of college.

I like to teach according to the students' needs and abilities. One-on-one teaching is preferable so that we can always work at your speed and level.

I taught English as a Second Language 2005-2007.

My business experience includes basic clerical filing, copying, screening phone calls, opening/distributing mail, fax, telex, email and Internet research. I have worked at international vessel owners transporting goods overseas and conducted the associated accounts payable and receivables. As the sole support person, I have maintained organization while multi-tasking.

As a conversational Japanese speaker, I help ease the cultural and business differences between the two societies. There is an art to knowing what to say when, upholding confidentiality and respect of clients and staff.

I have substitute taught Kindergarten through Grade 12 in public schools as well as taught English as a Second Language to adults. There are avenues to maintain student discipline and stay on schedule.
I am happy to share these skills with interested individuals.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a substitute teacher for Kindergarten through Grade 12 since October 2005, I am often asked back due to my excellence in keeping pupils interested in lessons as well as maintaining discipline so as to stay on schedule.

As an English as a Second Language teacher, I am able to offer special attention to those who need it while keeping the entire class on schedule. I prefer teaching the higher grades of elementary school.

I am available for long term substitute opportunities, including summer school.

I taught English as a Second Language for 2-3 years.

Jan 2005 - April 2007 I taught English as a Second Language to adults. Teaching Beginner level, I we were required to use a standard textbook. I often included my own creations and often distributed worksheet handouts.

Classes focused on enabling students to assimilate in American life and secure jobs. One of my students quickly became a successful cook at a local establishment.

Class size varied and I do not speak the native tongue of my students.

General Computer

My study of computers goes back to the 1970's using mainframe IBM computers. My Microsoft proficiency includes Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, various email and Internet providers.

As a college student I tutored a classmate, who successfully passed the Introduction to Computer Science class. Program language proficiency includes Fortran, Cobol, etc.

At almost all of my office profession, I have been the computer guru of the office. Accordingly, I am comfortable teaching all levels.

My undergraduate degree is in East Asian Studies during which I studied Japan only. I have spoken conversational Japanese since 1975 and yet am not totally fluent. I read, write and speak Tokyo dialect, spent my senior year studying in Japan, and worked at Japanese offices in USA.

I read and write hirogana and katakana and approximately 300 kanji. I also perform 'shodoo' art drawing kanji with ink and bamboo brush.

I am prepared to teach elementary and intermediate conversational and written Japanese.

Microsoft Excel

I am proficient with Microsoft Excel and would be happy to tutor someone in Excel.

As a substitute and English as a Second Language teacher since 2005, I am experienced and currently teach phonics to both children and adults.

Pronunciation is imperative to attain respect. As a native Connecticutite, I speak American English.

I am prepared and willing to teach both handicapped as well as non-Americans in addition to Americans.

Study Skills

I have substitute taught and taught English as a Second Language. For both there is the need to keep students on track. I do so by creating spreadsheets of the work to be done and the students. I also privately tutor Japanese and Geometry. The students knew the lesson schedule and how to stay current. Both students have improved their ability greatly.
