In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified Connecticut State teacher, in Special Education from grades K-12. I taught for 30 years before retiring with a Bachelors in Special Education from SCSU, a Masters from Sacred Heart University, a 6th year degree in Administration and Supervision from Sacred Heart, and 90 credit hours towards Language, Reading, and Literacy towards an EdD at New England University.

I have undergraduate experience as well as life experience in teaching hard of hearing students. I have credit hours as well as years of summers spent at a camp for the deaf/hearing impaired.

I have over 40 hours in sign language, and it was part of my undergraduate curriculum in Special Education. My grandmother taught deaf children, and I spent summers with her. I am quite adept at Sign, and have numerous texts, which would be wonderful for a family wanting to learn to sign.
