I have experience tutoring ages 5-14, though I'm beginning to expand my base to high school students now that I've graduated and am attending Georgetown. Throughout my experiences tutoring students, I've come to the conclusion that simple, basic methods of repetition rarely work with those coming to me, and thus, I often employ personalized teaching styles to fit each student.
For example, last year I had a little boy who was having difficulty with basic addition, but he had an obsession with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I ended up printing out cards with different nina turtles on them, and then used those as visual tools to help him understand the concepts of addition, all the while capturing his attention.

In short, tutoring is something I enjoy immensely. During classes, for myself, I always found grasping a difficult concept so rewarding, but, as I began tutoring, watching my students understand their difficult subject makes it all worth it.

If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment for a tutoring session, message me. Thank you for your interest.

American History

I've completed AP US History, World After Columbus, and Adv. History Seminar on the Election and received a 4 on the AP US exam. History is more than simply reciting facts about the past- it's understanding the events that led to today, understanding the connections between the programs FDR put into place during the Great Depression and the battle for "Universal Health Care", understanding how the republicans turned into the democrats over time, how the past always leads to the future, and how what we are doing today will lead to another tomorrow. That is what I hope to teach my students. That, while, if needed, helping them prepare for the AP US exam.

Elementary Math

I've completed AP Calculus BC and have acted as a math tutor for elementary and advanced level math for years. Elementary math is the foundation for all future math courses, and thus, what is learned in the basic stages often sets the stage for what is to come. I often shape my method for tutoring to the individual student, attempting to incorporate their interests.

English

I've completed AP Literature in one of the top boarding schools in the country, and received a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam, awaiting scores for the AP Lit exam. I grew up reading at least a book a week, and have collected an arsenal of literature that I'm well versed in, including but certainly not limited to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, All the King's Men by Barbra Kingsolver, The Invisible Man by Ralph Waldo Ellison, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Arcadia. I adore reading, and seek to share my passion for examining the contents of a book with all students. Whether from pronunciation of words to reading to writing, I'm eager to help tutor all elements of the English language to all ages.

French

I'm a prospective French major at Georgetown University and have completed AP French. I can aid in high school level (and below) French courses, with pronunciation, grammar, reading and speaking. In eleventh grade, I placed third in the state on the Grand Concours exam, taken in early March. I'm incredibly passionate about the language and eager to share my knowledge with others, and hopefully, help them gain the passion that I have.

Grammar

I've completed AP Literature at one of the top boarding schools in the country, received a 780 on SAT Reading and a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition test. After learning French, I truly began to understand the importance of grammar in our language. It allows us to communicate effectively. I'll be available to tutor grammar to all ages!

SAT Reading

I received a 780 on the SAT Reading section on my first attempt taking the exam. I believe the section requires not only a base of vocabulary, but also an understanding of what is being read at an intricate, not only base level. Additionally, the SAT reading sections, along with most APs, are notorious for providing "false friends" as answers, or, in other words, answers that seem correct, but, upon further examination, can be proven wrong. Teaching a student how to identify and eliminate those answers will, in the end, help them raise their score.

Writing

I write. I write unending analogies filled with anomalies and alliterations, freckled with descriptions, pulling onwards with parallelisms that leave the mind begging for air. I write stories and lifelines and advice and commentary. I write not only with words but also with silence, for what remains unwritten often means the most. I write in beds swallowed by blankets, in coffee shops festooned with caffeine addicts, with dream addicts, with life addicts. I write not for readers, but for myself. I write to express my mind, to chart my history and the histories of characters that exist only in my imagination. I write for hours. I write for minutes. I write until my idea rests complete. Without writing, the world would be less. I would be less. For two summers, I devoted my time to an unending story that I can’t bring myself to complete, for that is finality, the finality of a character’s life being over. And one day, I will end the story, complete the life, but for now, I can’t find the ending. Ending a book is like searching for the correct way to leave a friend who knows you better than you know yourself. There is no correct way. And so, I will keep writing until I run out of words.

I've written 120 pages of an unfinished book and enjoy the written word more than most people enjoy their modern coffee. From teaching grammar to creative writing to analytical to persuasive to simple hand writing, I see to share my passion with any student who asks.
