I have a degree from UMASS Amherst in Studio Art with a concentration in photography. As a painter I was part of a well-known group of artists, and participated in international exhibitions with them, including one in a national gallery in 2006. I also founded an international movement of filmmakers. I have studied early modernist art, film history (with a particular interest in Expressionism, film noir, avant-garde cinema, world cinema, horror cinema and 1930's Hollywood). Also I have experience directing stage plays, and an interest in Symbolist and experimental and avant-garde theatre, Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett and Anton Chekhov. My literature interests and studies have been mostly focused on 19th century world literature (particularly Russian), Symbolist plays, Knut Hamsun, decadent literature (like Huysmans and Rodenbach), and the art and culture around the Vienna Secession. My art history studies mostly focused on early modernism as well (1870's-1920).

Film

I studied film and film history at SVA before taking a break to direct plays and later paint with the Stuckists before finishing my BFA at UMass Amherst (where again I studied Film, Video and Film History) and received the Five Colleges Film Certificate (a program available before the approval of the Film Studies Major) while I received my BFA in Studio Art (where my concentration was in Photography and Film).

I have been making independent, experimental and underground films since 1994, and have received worldwide attention as the founder of the Remodernist film movement. During that time I have used 16mm, Super-8, digital video, analog video and the Digital Harinezumi for my work and am familiar with all elements of production and tools, from pre-production through post.

Regarding film studies, my concentration has been on early avant-garde film, world cinema (particularly the cinema of Japan, Russia, France, Germany and Eastern Europe), film noir, horror film (1900-1980), film noir, independent and underground film.

Photography

I have a BFA from UMass Amherst in Studio Art with a concentration in photography.

I also have experience since 1995 as a photographer, and am proficient in digital and film photography and have used 35mm cameras, medium format cameras, and various digital cameras.

I also have b&w darkroom experience, digital post-production experience (including Photoshop, Lightroom, Gimp, Capture One and Apple Aperture among others. I am also a published pinhole photographer.

Theatre

I studied theatre in high school at Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven, CT. I have also directed critically acclaimed and financially successful productions for the New Haven Theatre Company, and have acting experience as well. I have also studied Shakespeare as well as early modernist, Symbolist and avant-garde theatre including Samuel Beckett, German Expressionist theatre (Oskar Kokoschka, Ernst Toller, Arnolt Bronnen, Maurice Maeterlinck and Antonin Artaud). I have understanding of theatrical direction and production as well as with acting techniques and exercises.
