Sometimes learning in a traditional setting is problematic for some students. The subject matter can seem boring or appear to have no relevance with the student's life experience. At other times, the method of teaching is at odds with how a particular student learns.

I'm familiar with both issues:

One to One tutoring offers a host of great ways to ground the material in everyday life.....maybe not what the student is experiencing that very day, but close enough so that a seed is planted....this could be valuable in specific ways.

I'm left handed and decidedly "right brained". I learned to absorb and retain information in very different way than the traditional student. I developed visual structures and other visual cues to solidify my understanding of class material. As an example: When you (the student) can "teach" the material, that is, stand in front of an empty class and explain the subject material in a clear fluid manner, it follows that you know it thoroughly.

I look forward to working with kids who are yearning for a tutor who understands how hard they are trying and how difficult the work can seem.

I hold a BS in finance from Syracuse and an MBA from Columbia University. I have worked for Fortune 500 companies and started three business from scratch, selling the last one in 2006.

The subject Business covers a wide range of topics including: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and Personnel, Strategic Planning and Business Law to name the most important areas. Typically an Intro to Business course would review each of these topics and prepare the student for the detailed course work to follow.

International business courses cover Trade, International finance/currency issues, letter of credit and and other issues particular to goods and services purchase or sold to a foreign entity.

I have done business all through the pacific rim and have personally made over 50 trips to Asia in the past 20 years.

I've been playing the guitar since I was a kid and have taught a number of students the basics, including my own daughter.

Special Needs

As you can see from my profile I had learning issues growing up. I was able to find my way around those and have great sympathy for students and their parents who are dealing with learning problems. I have tutored several students with issues and I am currently work with two. One who is slightly impaired in all his course work and another who shows evidence of ADD and is on medication.

Study Skills

Hi: As you can see from the subjects where I'm certified and those where I'm actively tutoring, it's clear that study skills are and inherent part of what i'm offering. This is especially true in the majority of the k-12 students I work with and, sadly, in some of the students who are having difficulty at the college level.

I am an adjunct at a small For Profit college in Southington, Ct. I teach in the business program. These kids/adults are non-traditional students who are often unprepared for anything approaching college level work. A huge part of my time is spent doing remedial work that often starts with fundamental study skills such as note taking, taking notes of notes, and using those notes to study for exams. Many students know they should be highlighting important material when reading text books. Unfortunately much of what get highlighted is either the wrong material....or they highlight everything. Even if the correct material is identified students may have no system for using the those highlights to properly prepare for an exam. What I'm describing just touches on what I cover when helping a student to properly organize themselves and prepare to study in an effect manner.

As you can see from my profile, I get results.
