I have experience teaching English in a variety of formats, first as a writing tutor at my alma mater (Trinity College), and more recently teaching English as a Second Language to students in Colombia. I've interned for The New Yorker magazine fact-checking, editing, and writing short venue descriptions, have a good grasp of and ability to teach the mechanics of English and, know how to help students help themselves to become the best writers they can be. I believe strongly that the teacher-student relationship requires trust and respect on both ends, and I strive to cultivate that by focusing on the needs and learning styles of individual students. Learning should always be something that the student, foremost amongst all involved, is motivated to do, and I plan my classes accordingly to be enjoyable, challenging students to push their potential, while at the same time giving them confidence by building on material from prior lessons.
It would be a delight to tutor you (or your children), I look forward to hearing from you!
