Hello,
My education has focused, at various times, on tuba performance, music education, musicology, literature, and the German language, with work in mathematics and piano as well. In order to properly explore these passions I am pursuing two degrees contemporaneously at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. This December I will receive both a Bachelor of Arts degree in German and a Bachelor of Music degree in the Musical Arts. Not only will I receive these degrees with graduation honors, but I will receive them as a member of New York's Iota Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.
I eagerly await the opportunity to work with students of all levels and of varied interests. I can relate to the difficulties that traditional classroom-style education can present: not enough attention per student, not a lively-enough atmosphere, and not enough focus on the big picture. In my tutoring I like to practice and drill specific skills, while ensuring that the big picture, the "so what?", is never forgotten. I like to challenge my students, while never forgetting to show exactly how interesting and fun the subjects can be!
In addition to focusing work on whatever specific subject the student needs help with, be it German, literature, reading and writing, math, or a combination of several, I like to expose my students to various methods of organization and study skills, with the hope that, through our work together, the student will find one method, or a combination of several methods, that will set them up for success!
I hope to meet and work with you soon, so that I may share my love of learning and its benefits!
Peter
