Hello and thank you for browsing my tutor profile!
My name is Becca, and I am a highly creative and educated individual with a passion for inspiring students the way I was inspired by several teachers when I was growing up and attending college.
I received by Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University in 2005, where my concentration was in English Literature and British Studies. I had the opportunity to study and live abroad in London, England during my junior year and this added a wealth of knowledge to my education.
I recently graduated from BridgeTEFL online with my certification in teaching English as a foreign language. In the past I tutored other college students in English, and will begin tutoring ESL students in January.
I recently became a new educator with the Cheshire Community Theatre, where I will be teaching musical theatre to elementary and middle school students beginning in January. I have 27 years of performing arts experience and over 10 years of semi-professional music and theatre performing experience. In addition, I have played the piano for over 20 years and was professionally trained for over 10 years. I learned how to read music at age 3, so I also bring that knowledge and experience to any student wishing to learn. I have tutored beginning piano students and all levels of voice and theatre students in the past, including audition preps.
My tutoring style is very precise but also relaxed. I believe that in order for students to fully learn, they must be given ample time to practice the lessons they are taught, so my lesson plans always allow for a beneficial practice and production period at the end of any teaching lesson. I encourage questions and discussion, as I do not feel that anyone learns very well by just being lectured and only experiencing "teacher to student" interaction.
The most important thing you could know about me is that I am not only knowledgeable in the areas of English, Literature, ESL/TEFL, History, Music, and Theatre, but I am very excited about these fields and I love sharing them with others. This isn't work to me, it is enjoyable!
While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I am flexible with offering make-up sessions. I do have a home studio for teaching voice, piano, and public speaking. I am also happy to travel to you if that is easier.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have, and I would love the opportunity to tutor you in any of the fields in which I am knowledgeable.
