I've been a tutor for students of all ages from elementary school to adult. I have had a very diverse educational background including many science and math courses. The most important thing about tutoring, I find, is to work with the student and find the best way for them to learn. When students are struggling, sometimes it is simply because no one has explained it in a way that they can comprehend. My goal in tutoring students is to help them become successful in their studies. I believe that all students have the ability and the right to succeed. My tutoring approach compliments that belief by encouraging students to believe those things about themselves. Tutoring is about more than just teaching students information, but it is also about teaching students how they learn best.
I graduated from Ohio Valley University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am currently waiting on my certification to be processed, but I will be certified in K-6 in West Virginia soon. I have spent a lot of time working with children including summer camps and internships. I'm currently working an internship at the Hartford Catholic Worker, working with students in Hartford and doing some tutoring. In December, I finished my student teaching at Jefferson Elementary Center, which is a very low income school in West Virginia. I also worked this summer for Hartford City Mission for their summer camp: Camp Noah. My background in education and my previous tutoring experience will definitely contribute to my tutoring ability and aptitude. I hope you will consider me to tutor you or your child.
