I'm an experienced, Yale-educated tutor who has been helping students prepare for the SAT and other exams for over ten years. I pride myself on being able to adapt to the needs of each individual student I work with. Whether you're a student struggling with a test like the SAT and find the test overwhelming or someone who needs an extra 50 points to compete for a spot at an elite university, I can help you achieve your goals.

SAT prep or prep for another standardized test like the GRE does not have to be a painful process. Preparing for a standardized test is a time to take an inventory of your skills and improve the ones that don't quite measure up. If taken seriously, such preparation can continue to serve you long after the test is over.

Let's conquer that test together!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have a BA in English from Yale, and have extensive experience teaching writing and grammar. I can break down the grammar sections on the SAT and ACT into categories that, once the student learns to recognize them, completely "unlocks" the test.

Chess

I'm a USCF (United States Chess Federation) rated club player with an extensive background in education. I have experience teaching basic chess elements such as openings, tactics, and end game. When working with a beginner, I introduce how the pieces move and then proceed to basic mating patterns and tactical motifs.

Praxis

The Praxis exam closely resembles the SAT and GRE, both of which I know well. I am also currently tutoring someone for the praxis.

Moreover, I teach a class that is part of the teacher preparation program at Southern and am familiar with the requirements for teacher certification and the content of the Praxis exam.

Russian

I'm a native Russian speaker. Although I grew up in the United States, I am competent in both reading and writing Russian and speak the language fluently. Several years ago, I worked for a foreign language school and tutored several students in basic Russian.

SAT Math

I have extensive experience teaching SAT math. I scored 700+ on both the SAT and GRE, and equip students with the toolbox they need to solve any standardized test math problem.
