Hi,

My name is Vilma. I graduated from The College of New Jersey and majored in biology and minored in finance. I tutored for The College of New Jersey for 3 years and been privately tutoring for Wyzant since 2011.

I have tutored introductory classes in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pre-calculus, algebra and SAT/ACT prep. As a college tutor, usually my students have questions prepared to ask me, and I use the textbook to help the student figure out on their own what the answer could be. If the student has trouble, I do tell them how I approach the problem, and then I give them a similar problem to see if they have comprehended the method and can also use it themselves.

Age of students I have tutored ranges from elementary school to college level.

I have a great understanding of the basics needed to be successful in the sciences and mathematics. Having also taken the SATs and MCATs, I can be a great help to students preparing for standardized tests. In fact, I have been a certified instructor for the SATs since February 2012.

I love tutoring and always find myself making good friends with my students and their families. It is very rewarding when I have students tell me that I have had such a positive influence on reducing their stress levels which allows them to prepare more effectively for their exams.

Currently, I am a first year medical student at Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac Univerisity in Connecticut. Although my time is limited, I am looking to take two to three students near the area.

Thanks,

Vilma

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I am a recent graduate as a biology major at The College of New Jersey. I have taken genetics and upper level courses in genetics at my college and know the concepts very well.

MCAT

I am familiar with the exam because I had to take it myself. Even though I had trouble getting a competitive score at first, I learned the second time around how to effectively prepare for the exam and the test skills needed for each section to maximize my score. I would love to help other pre-meds achieve their goal.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken organic chemistry I during my sophomore year in college and have also tutored the class to students at The College of New Jersey. I have received an A in the course and I am currently tutoring a student in organic chemistry. I know the subject very well and currently I am reviewing the material for the MCAT exam as I plan to apply to medical school.

Study Skills

Throughout my education, whether it be elementary, middle school, high school or college, I have graduated with a high GPA and the most important skill for success in school is knowing the study skills that work best for me to do well in each type of class. I believe everyone is capable of doing well in school if they figure out the study skills that work best for them. I would love to give advice to students struggling in school, because sometimes students need someone to show them all the types of ways they can prepare. In the end, hard work pays off and you just have to put in the time for each class to do well. I have had lots of experiences in school, and I have learned what methods work and what don't, so I believe my knowledge in study skills may be very useful to students who want to learn what the definition of studying really encompasses.

I have noticed that many students who need tutoring are outof my reach due to commuting obstacles and distance. One of my friends recommended I offer tutoring online.
