I can not remember a time when I didn't want to work with children and young adults. I have spent over 30 years working as an educator, recreation specialist and athletic coach. Now that my son is in college, it's time for me to help the next generation of learners discover their gifts and especially - how they learn.

Each child is a unique gift, with their own orientation to the world. Boys learn differently than girls and yes, birth-order, diet, exercise, sleep etc can indeed impact how children embrace learning. It is important that the student feels a sense of balance in their life and through the subject being addressed, skills will be developed to look at learning as a life-long process.

I am a VERY patient educator with a "roll with the punches" attitude and will bring a genuine love of learning into your home. I love animals of all kinds so if you have pets - no problem!

Reading

I currently work with pre-K through college students assisting native speakers as well as second language students in reading both for pleasure and for academic learning. I am cleared in the Elementary K-6.

I am also a writer of children's books as well as screenplays and stage plays.

Writing

One thing I know for sure is that writing is here to stay. Although we have changed the way we do it, the world is writing and reading at a faster rate than ever before. From tweets to texts, emails to blogs, we are writing. So join me as we all embrace the new written word and all its applications.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as a substitute in the elementary system as well as directed the before and after school program at our local elementary school.

I have served in all the positions of the PTA and on 2 principal search committees and one curriculum committee.

Phonics

Phonics is how I learned to read and with a hearing impaired sister it is how she learned to speak.

Study Skills

I have served as an academic adviser and coach for over 30 years using tools such as time management, project deconstruction, environmental impact as well as the standards of note taking, effective listening, and reading comprehension.

Swimming

I have been a competitive swimmer for most of my life and began my coaching career at 17 working my way through the AAU, USS, Y and NCAA systems. My passion is stroke development in the 12 and under competitor.

Theatre

I began my passion work in theater as a prop master and costumer while watching my sister perform. In college, I was "typecast" in my first performing roles and then as I studied, branched out into broader roles.

During my adult years I have continued to perform, serve as a prop master and have taught Prop Mastery in the summer camp setting.

I am currently working on my first stage play.

Special Needs

In my training as a recreational specialist, I was required to take a number of special education courses and in my work at the university level served on the compliance committee and created the "pre-orientation" for our students with specials needs.

Volleyball

I played volleyball in high school and attended college during the transition of Title IX so had the opportunity to play during my senior year at the NCAA level and was the first Div 1 coach charged with bringing volleyball to a local university.

Sign Language

I grew up with a hearing impaired sister and a parent who worked in deaf education. During my college years, I opted to take sign language rather than continue with French which I had studied for 11 years. I have worked with hearing impaired students using sign language to supplement my communication.

Public Speaking

In addition to all of the categories of educational public speaking, I have served as PA announcer and color commentator for NCAA Women's basketball and as a performer and host of numerous conferences.

ADD/ADHD

I have lived and worked with my ADD throughout my academic and work career - there are many methods of working with young people and their challenges, from diet and exercise to creating the right environment and of course respectful Rx management

Hard Of Hearing

I lived with a hearing impaired sister and my mother was a teacher of the deaf and a special education professor during her career.

I opted to study sign language for my college language requirement.

I have used Outlook since its inception and find it to be the most universal of the time management and communication systems available to us. From managing multiple calendars to coordinating city-wide meetings, Outlook has provided the framework for the creation of group lists, instant invites and user friendly email management and storage.

Microsoft Publisher

I have used Publisher for a variety of publications and LOVE the versatility. From brochures to newsletters and more. Very user friendly.

Film

My area of training is as a film writer. My course work centered around script treatments and character/story development.
