I am a CT Elementary and Special Education Certified Kindergarten teacher with 9 years of experience working with students in educational settings. I have worked with students through grade 8 in areas including reading, writing, math and social studies. I enjoy working with students 1:1 and really getting to know how each individual learns best. I am capable of differentiating instruction to meet your students' individual needs. Presenting content in a variety of ways, using multisensory and multimodal approaches is my strong suit. I am looking to connect with students who need summer "gap" tutoring services or those students who need a little extra support to ensure they are on grade level when the new school year begins. I am also willing to continue working with clients throughout the school year! Please contact me with any questions! I look forward to working and learning with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I have been a dancer since the age of 3. I have been classically trained in Ballet technique by former professional Ballet Dancer Ken Lipitz at the New England Dance Conservatory. In college, I was a member of SRU Dance, the largest student run organization on campus and choreographed 3 pieces for our annual showcase in my time there.

Cooking

I am an avid cook who has years of experience. I was most formally trained in middle school during my home-economics courses, but worked as a snack bar cook throughout college and into my early adult years. I can convert measurements, double recipes and create healthy meals for one or many.

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from Salve Regina university in 2011 with a double major in elementary and special education. I am a CT dual Certified teacher and have 3 years of in classroom experience in grades k-2. I have also worked with students up to grade 8 in tutoring and after school educational settings.

Elementary Math

As a CT Elementary and Special education certified teacher I have experience working with students of all ages and abilities in the area of math. I have worked with students in grades k, 1, 2, 4 most specifically in this area through my student teaching and job experiences. I teach using a hands on approach and in a multimodal way to target every type of learner and help them find what works for them!

Handwriting

I have been trained using the handwriting without tears and zaner bloster programs for handwriting. As a kindergarten teacher, I am required by my district to instruct my students in handwriting to ensure their legibility. I have taught handwriting through these multimodal and systematic programs for 3 years.

Phonics

I have been trained in the Lively Letters program for letter sound awareness. This program originally designed for speech language pathologists is a multisensory program that focuses on how letter sounds feel in the mouth when being produced correctly. I have also taught phonics through the use of the Orton-gillingham and Wilson special education programs during the course of my student teaching and teaching career.

Photography

As an avid photographer myself, I have taken many college level and adult education photography courses, focusing on both film and digital photography. I have exposed film, mixed chemicals and developed prints in a dark room, as well as worked on digital composition and editing using programs like adobe light room and photo shop. I use completely manual SLR and DSLR cameras and have adequate knowledge to help others with this amazing art form.

Praxis

As an education student, I completed and took and completed many of the Connecticut and Rhode Island Elementary and Special Education Praxis tests. I completed each test through only one try with excellent scores, after using proven study techniques and guides. I successfully have completed praxis 0012, 0014, 0534, 5011, 5710, 5720, and 5730.

Special Needs

I am a CT certified Special Educator. I have a background working with students with a wide variety of special needs in educational and recreational settings ranging from downs syndrome and autism to ADHD, learning disabilities and selective mutism.

Swimming

I have been certified as a Jeff Ellis certified life guard in the past. I have also worked at a camp for the past two summers and have been required to assist students in their small group swim lessons for children ages 4 to 12.

Theatre

I have performed in many musical and theatre productions, as well as assisted in set and stage design, costume design and show choreography. I have been a member of the Hartford Children's Theatre, the River Valley Youth Theatre Collective Inc. as well as the Asnuntuck Community Theatre. I have performed a variety of roles in the following productions, Once on This Island, 42nd Street, Grease, Guys and Dolls and Into the Woods.

Yoga

I have been a yoga student of Lynne Miller Greene in Enfield CT for 4 years. I have studied breathing techniques, posing and relaxation through my practice with her. I have also researched the use and benefit of yoga for students with ADHD and implemented child modified poses with students in my class.
