I am a lifelong student of the world desiring to share my passion for learning with fellow students of all ages. My background includes a BA from Middlebury College and a Master's from Yale University Graduate School. I am a published writer and former junior high teacher who has tutored students from pre-K to adult. My specialties include English writing and grammar, ESL, Japanese, U.S. History and beginning Spanish. I used Microsoft Excel in business for many years and then used it as a grade keeper when I was teaching. Through all this experience, I developed excellent Excel skills. Every student can become a better reader with the right materials and guide. As a former English and Literature teacher, I understand how to help students improve in reading fluency and comprehension. I am a published author and avid reader myself. Spanish

Whether you are a student, business person, or even a traveler who wants to get around more easily in Spanish-speaking countries, I can help you. I studied Spanish in junior high, high school and into college. I taught junior high beginning Spanish and former students still say I was their best Spanish teacher. English

If you are struggling with English, I can help you. English is not the easiest language, but with the right tools and enough practice, you can improve! I am happy to help: I am a published author and have taught English at a K-8 school in the U.S. I also taught English conversation in Japan to students of all ages and have tutored native Spanish-speaking students in English grammar and writing. ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching English to speakers of foreign languages since 1988. My students have ranged from elementary students to adults and spanned all levels from beginning elementary to advanced. My experience includes a TESOL teaching certification from TESOL Express in the U.K. Whatever your English language needs, I can help you!

Japanese

I'd love to help you learn Japanese. I majored in Japanese at Middlebury College, with a year at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. In addition, I went on to earn a master's from Yale in East Asian studies/Japanese and studied Japanese pedagogy at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Studies (ICJ) in Yokohama, Japan. Proofreading

I am a freelance writer and former English teacher. My experience includes teaching Language Arts and English composition to junior high students in the U.S. as well as teaching ESL to speakers of other languages here and abroad. I am a published author and work regularly as a professional editor. If you need proofreading help, I'm your grammatical and lexical expert!

Elementary (K-6th)

As a former teacher in a K-8 elementary school, I am well familiar with the curriculum for each grade. I was specifically responsible for teaching the 7th and 8th grade classes, and so I had to understand the curriculum of the feeding grades. I have also worked with my own three children from Kindergarten through 8th grade. I know what the trouble spots are and how to help them with tools and study ideas to facilitate success in school and increase their confidence.

Religion

I have been a practicing Catholic my whole life. I went to Catholic high school and taught in a Catholic elementary school. As a parent, I have overseen my own children's religious education, which has included thoughtful discussions about the bible and church teachings. I would be pleased to work with students on bible studies or Catholic education topics (CCD).

Public Speaking

Trained in communications and public speaking by Decker Communications, I can coach anyone to improve their public speaking skills. I have spoken at numerous conferences in the US and abroad. Let me give you the benefit of this experience. Fear of public speaking is the most common phobia, more prevalent than all other phobias combined.
