I have worked as a journalist, editor, writing professor and author for two decades. I have a BA from Boston College and a Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. I have published dozens of articles on education, parenting, health and business, and my work has appeared in many national publications and web sites including BusinessWeek, USA Weekend, Parents, Parenting, Shape, AOL.com, U.S. News and World Report and The Washington Post.

I provide students with the tools, guidance and inspiration necessary to write a strong, authentic college application essay. My step-by-step process helps demystify and simplify what many students consider a dreadful task, and make the essays work to your advantage.

I can help students:
•select appropriate topics and themes for the Common Application personal statement and supplemental essays.
•organize and focus your essays.
•avoid the most common essay mistakes.
•teach you how to craft an original, authentic essay.
•increase the odds that you'll get accepted by the school of your dreams!

Students (and their parents) have the comfort of knowing that a professional writer will guide them from inception through the final draft of the essay.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I have worked as a writer and editor for more than 20 years and have been published in dozens of national publications. I am an adjunct professor of writing at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT and I have published two non-fiction books. I am a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. I have been doing college application essay tutoring for three years, and have had success at helping many students write effective essays. I work with each student to help them take stock, come up with appropriate topics, organize and focus their essays and avoid common mistakes.
